Chrome Local Network Access Restriction

The Issue

When developing Adobe Express add-ons locally (typically at https://localhost:5241 with a local SSL certificate), Chrome will now display a permission prompt:

new.express.adobe.com wants to "Look for and connect to any device on your local network".

Local Network Access Error

Please click "Allow" to continue local add-on development.

If you click "Block" instead of "Allow", you will not be able to side-load your local in-development add-on in Adobe Express. The Add-on CLI cannot bypass this browser-level restriction and will show you this error.

Local Network Access Error

If you accidentally blocked the permission, you can reset it by clearing browser data specifically for Adobe Express:

  1. In Chrome, click on the Site Information icon right before the URL in the address bar.
  2. Click on the Site settings button.

Site settings

  1. In the page that opens, click on both the Delete data and Reset Permissions buttons.

Clear data

  1. Alternatively, you can delete browser usage data (cookies, local storage, etc.) for only new.express.adobe.com by:
    • Going to chrome://settings/content/all
    • Searching for new.express.adobe.com
    • Clicking the trash icon to remove the site data

After clearing the data, reload Adobe Express. You will see the permission prompt again—this time, click Allow.

  1. Navigate to chrome://flags/#local-network-access-check
  2. Set Local Network Access Checks to Disabled
  3. Restart Chrome

Supported Browsers

Adobe Express add-ons support the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, and Safari. See the Adobe Express System requirements for complete details.

Sandboxed iFrame Caveats

Add-ons run in a sandboxed iframe environment with certain restrictions. See the Add-on Context guide for details on permissions and limitations.
